Women’s Statehouse Day - Public Servants’ Prayer

About the event…

Every Spring, women come to the Indiana Statehouse to hear from several elected women leaders in the capitol. It is a wonderful opportunity to unite in prayer and demonstrate our encouragement and support of the hard work they are doing for us. The event is followed by a lunch with their respective Senators and Representatives, as well as a tour of the Statehouse.

Our leaders face more difficulties than we are aware of. Women’s Statehouse Day gives women a glimpse of the work that goes into passing legislation. In this chaotic world we often ask, “what can I do?” or, “how can I help?”.  This annual event gives women a chance to enter a space only seen from afar, and are given the tools (prayer and knowledge) to know exactly what they can do to help.

The call to prayer is based on two significant Scriptures, 1 Timothy 2:1-4, which says we are to make it a priority to pray and intercede for our leaders, and Jeremiah 9:17-24, in which God specifically calls women to pray in their capital city for their nation and its leaders.”

A peek at the process…

Almost 500 prints are created for this special day. Many of which have individual names of the recipients printed on them. It usually takes several weeks of sketching, painting, editing, printing, and packaging…until everything is ready to be gifted! From start to finish, each print is created by hand in my home studio.

This process gives me the time and opportunity to pray over each name on the art print. Every year I become more and more amazed by the profound significance of our united prayer. It is encouraging to know we have been praying over these names - these very specific and loved individuals - for several years now!

Sketch - Once the PSP team settle on an idea for the year, I will head to the drawing board to create a detailed sketch.

Painting - If we like the design, then I move on to the painting process. It can take me about a week or so to complete the final painting depending on the complexity of the piece.

Printing - Every gift print for those working in the Indiana Statehouse will have their individual names and titles printed on them. During this stage I am adjusting printer settings and constantly checking for any name spelling errors.

Packaging - At this busy stage, I am printing, praying, and packaging the prints all at the same time. Checking and re-checking to make sure I haven’t forgotten anyone on the list.

Shipping - Pray without ceasing…now is the moment I carefully wrap everything and say several more prayers until the shipment arrives safely to the PSP team.

Women’s Statehouse Day! I was fortunate to attend the event in person for the first few years until my husband and I moved to FL.

Don’t hesitate if you can attend the event in person, be sure to check it out!
